In the world of corporate merchandising, every detail communicates your brand’s identity. Design and functionality alone are no longer enough: today, certified safety is what creates a true competitive edge. The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification represents a global benchmark of excellence, ensuring that textiles and garments are free from harmful substances.
What it is and what it truly guarantees
Contrary to what one might think, the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 does not apply only to the main fabric. The certification is holistic: every single component of the product — from yarn to zippers, from labels to screen prints — is rigorously tested.
The verification criteria include over 100 control parameters, often exceeding the requirements set by the European REACH regulation. This means providing real protection against carcinogenic substances, allergenic dyes, and heavy metals—safeguarding the health of those who wear the garment while reducing its chemical impact on the environment.
Why it’s strategic in promotional merchandising
In the custom apparel and promotional products industry, certification is not just a technical detail—it’s a powerful communication asset. Choosing certified products means:
Building Trust: You demonstrate genuine care for the well-being of both your end customers and your employees.
Premium Positioning: You elevate your brand’s perceived value by aligning it with internationally recognized quality standards.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): You meet the expectations of a market that increasingly rewards transparency and sustainability in textiles.
Product Classes: Tailored Safety
A key aspect that is often overlooked is that testing is carried out based on the product’s intended use. There are four product classes:
Class I: Items for babies and young children (the most stringent requirements).
Class II: Items in direct contact with the skin (e.g. T-shirts, polos).
Class III: Items not in direct contact with the skin (e.g. jackets, coats).
Class IV: Materials for furnishing and decoration.
Validity and Continuous Updates
The certification is valid for one year. This requires manufacturers to carry out ongoing testing and regular updates. It is a dynamic system: every year, the OEKO-TEX® association revises limits and monitored substances based on the latest scientific findings, ensuring compliance that remains at the forefront.
Note: You can verify the validity of a certificate at any time by entering its identification number on the official OEKO-TEX® Label Check tool.
A tangible value for companies
Integrating certified products into your marketing strategy means making a clear choice: communicating through items that respect people. It’s not just about legal compliance, but about aligning your brand’s stated values with the tangible quality of the products you offer.
Because today, more than ever, the value of a promotional item is also defined by what it does not contain.
